Historical Background
Medina’s story began as Hamburg Township, but on May 11, 1858, it was renamed to honor the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia. The township initially stretched down to Lake Minnetonka until the formation of Orono Township in 1889. In 1955, Medina transitioned from a township to a village, and by 1974, it proudly became a city.
Throughout its history, Medina has maintained its rural roots, heavily influenced by farming. However, the city began modernizing in the 1970s, with the introduction of paved roads and suburban developments enhancing its infrastructure.

Spanning an area of 27 square miles, Medina offers plenty to explore, including 1.55 square miles of scenic water bodies.
